With a name like Gourmet Burger Kitchen, it's no surprise that the creations they're dishing up here are nothing short of impressive. Recruiting flavour combinations from across the world, the guys at GBK bring a breath of fresh air to the burger world.
The first GBK was opened in 2001 by three Kiwis who missed the mighty burgers from home. When they set up their first restaurant in Battersea all those years ago, the concept of a gourmet burger was unheard of. Although you could find a fast food burger on every street corner, and pubs all over had some sort of burger on its menu, they could hardly be called fancy.
Now they're dishing out their gourmet goodies out from 80 locations across the country, each still made from hand, using 100% prime beef, and each still as packed full of the passion as the first.
Stack that burger high
You'll find the answer to all your burger dreams here at GBK. Like your patties topped with avocado? Sure thing. Prefer to sub in some chorizo? Got it. Fancy some bourbon glazed mushrooms? We get you.
We love The Taxidriver for a bun piled with American cheese, onion rings, relish, smoked chilli mayo, and crispy pickles that brings the classic burger formula to new heights. The Kiwiburger is also a solid choice – it pays homage to the restaurant's New Zealand roots, and has been topping off GBK menus since they opened. Beetroot, pineapple, mature cheddar, and a runny fried egg top things here – it's messy and unashamedly indulgent, and we love it.
Venture into vegetables
Be not afraid of a single, lonely green salad option for vegetarians. There's loads of choices for veggies here, with options that might even tickle the fancy of even the most loyal carnivore. Why not try the Johnny Be Goat? An enormous field mushroom glazed with bourbon and grilled, slathered in creamy whipped goat's cheese, onion rings, garlic mayo, and zingy piquillo peppers. And there's always a falafel packed one too.
If all that isn't enough, GBK does some mean sweet potato fries, that pair up perfectly with their signature baconnaise or house made garlic mayo. If that's not quite luxurious enough, then give the truffle cheese fries a go. And why not treat yourself to a milkshake? There's everything from classic vanilla or strawberry, to decadent salted caramel.
