Five Guys is American burger royalty. And since they arrived in the UK in 2013, we just can't get enough. Simplicity is the name of the game here. Burgers, dogs, sandwiches, fries, milkshakes and drinks, it's a quick hop into down-town Americana, sure to tackle the biggest appetite.
They're all about customisation, about putting the power into your hands to make sure you get the burger of your dreams. And life's too short not to live your dreams.
Make me one with everything
You are – of course – going to start your decision making with your choice of sandwich. If you're going for a double patty experience, choose a base from their Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Bacon Burger or Bacon Cheeseburger. If you'd like to stick with a single patty – it's easy – just choose the 'Little' version of any burger on offer. Their high quality beef patties, cooked to well done, are then packed onto their secret recipe buns, and topped with all of your favourite things.
There's 15 toppings to choose from here, including sauces like mayo, mustard, hot sauce, relish, BBQ sauce, HP sauce, ketchup, grilled veggies like mushrooms, onions and jalapenos, along with usual suspects like lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, pickles and onions. Five Guys even claim that you would need to eat there every day for 684 years if you want to try all their possible topping combinations – a staggering 250,000 ways.
Five sons and a business proposal
Five Guys started off as just that really – five guys hoping to make a living out of creating handmade burgers. The five guys in question are Jerry Murrell's five sons, Jim, Matt, Chad, Ben and Tyler, also known as the fifth 'guy'.
The five sons started their new business venture in Arlington, Virginia in 1986, when their parents gave them helpful advice – 'start a business or go to college', and the rest is history. The money meant for their college tuition was invested into the business. And within 15 years, Five Guys had spread across America, and now the world.
Oh my, those fries
You've picked your sandwich and toppings – no mean feat – it's now time to choose a mouth-watering side. You can't go wrong with their unique American style fries, all cooked in delicious, smooth peanut oil – you can choose either the original Five Guys style or Cajun style fries to go with your main.
To wash it all down, why not try one of their milkshakes? You can customise shakes to all tastes here. Forget having to settle for one flavour, you can have five or even 10 mixed in together. Go for the standard vanilla and chocolate, but if you're looking for something quirky, there are also exciting flavours such as peanut butter, malted milk, strawberry, salted caramel, cherry, banana, Oreo cookie pieces, coffee and bacon…yes crispy bacon.
