As part of the Marcus Rashford Child Food Poverty Task Force, we knew we had to do more.
Today, we are announcing our new commitment to deliver thousands of meals to families in need this Christmas. With the help of Co-op, Pret A Manger, Sheringhams, FareShare and The Felix Project, we will deliver surplus food, juices, healthy snacks, cereals and fresh fruit and veg to frontline charities, food banks and families in the coming weeks and months.
We've been collecting unsold food from Co-op stores around London - with the help of the Felix Project, who delivers the food to schools, holiday clubs, youth organisations, food banks, local charities, and COVID-19 emergency food hubs across London, expanding into more cities in weeks to come.
We're also trialing a similar project with Pret A Manger, collecting freshly-made, unsold sandwiches from a selection of London sites and delivering to the Felix Project.
We've also received hundreds of thousands of donations of juices, healthy snacks and cereals, which will be distributed by Fare Share across Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England, and secured commitments from food suppliers, such as Sheringhams, to deliver fresh fruit and vegetables in the weeks and months ahead.
This is all part of our long-term commitment to use our delivery network and partnerships to support those in need across the UK. Along with FareShare and Co-Op, we are members of Marcus Rashford's Child Food Poverty Taskforce, supporting his calls for the implementation of the 3 National Food Strategy policy recommendations, including the expansion of holiday provision (food and activities) to support all children on free school meals.
At Deliveroo we want to play our part in supporting families in need and and we are committed to working with our partners to provide food to families between now and Christmas and beyond. Charities are doing incredibly important work at the moment and we're pleased to be working with such great partners to make a contribution to support families across the UK.
