What do you leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve? Chances are, it's a mince pie and a wee dram of something warming. Half of Brits (even some of those without children) will be leaving food and drink out for Santa on Christmas Eve, meaning that Santa will consume rather a lot of mince pies and units of alcohol. Here at Deliveroo HQ, we've worked out the festive figures.
Santa will consume 16 million mince pies and 13 million units of alcohol in the UK alone
It's not just Santa that gets to chow down as he makes his way across the home nations – an estimated 20.7 million carrots will be left out for his reindeer in the UK. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen will have 2,587,500 each to digest as they make their way round the British Isles.
That adds up to a whopping 5.5 billion calories...
On Christmas Eve, Santa will consume 5.5 billion calories in the UK alone. It will take him 13,771,377 hours of exercise, walking at 4mph, to burn off all the calories eaten and drunk on his trip through the British Isles. A more timely option would be cycling, which would 'only' take 6,840,796 hours to burn off, if he were cycling between 10-12mph and assuming he weighs 21 stone.
Whiskey or cuppa?
Once he's made it back to the North Pole, it would take until November 29th 2017 for the all the alcohol to wear off, leaving less than a month to prepare for his next 'session' – you might want to join the 9% of people we surveyed who are leaving him a nice cup of tea instead.
