It's fair to say that Britain has a bit of a thing for fish. Sliced, diced, or sushi style, we just can't get enough of it, and who can blame us? Healthy, flavoursome, and quite simply delicious, it's no surprise that it's one of our favourite foods around.
Now there's a new kid on the block, and plenty of us are pretty excited to try it. Travelling all the way from Hawaii, the poké bowl is quickly making its mark, and we all want to have a taste.
But how do we know which ones are worth trying? A type of cubed raw fish seasoned any way you want it, poké offers endless opportunities to indulge, and we're here to help you find the best of the best…
1. Island Poké
Located in the heart of Soho, Island Poké is arguably the hottest new place on the London street food scene. Serving up delicious dishes, they use only the freshest and most sustainably sourced fish to make their mouth-watering menu choices. They combine this core ingredient with an array of exquisite flavours, to ensure the most fabulous first-time poké tasting experience. We recommend trying their Classic Aha if you're unsure, which blends your choice of base with tuna, shoyu dressing, and pineapple salsa.
2. Honi Poke
It turns out that Soho is overflowing with great places to try poké, and Honi Poke is another of our favourites. With a menu crafted by culinary genius Richard De La Cruz, a bona fide Michelin star chef, they offer more enticing options than you'll know what to do with. If you're spoilt for choice and not sure which to try first, we suggest picking their popular Crab Meat Poke, which blends crab meat with edamame, chuka wakame, and black fungus.
3. Tombo Poké
For a truly original take on this delicious dish, Tombo Poké is another place you might like to visit. Blending the traditional Hawaiian recipe with an infusion of Japanese ingredients, this exotic eatery allows you to order some amazing blends of these two uniquely tasty cuisines. Our favourite is Tokyo Classic, a mix of salmon sashimi with soy, sesame seeds, and nori.
4. Ahi Poké
Last but not least on our list is the increasingly famous Ahi Poké, located on Percy Street. Receiving rave reviews for its amazing poké dishes, this eatery fuses sushi and its Hawaiian cuisine to create something that's deliciously delectable. One of their most popular options is the Heat Wave, a combination consisting of quinoa, salmon, avocado, kimchee cucumber, and red onion. Fun, flavoursome, and fantastically tasty, it's guaranteed to have you placing an order time and time again.
