We all know that January feeling - beginning the New Year having enjoyed the Christmas holidays, but all too aware that the celebrations involved plenty of food and drink (and this is before we even start on the office Christmas party!). We promise ourselves that the next few weeks will see a complete turnaround, embarking on a detox to kickstart our new healthy lifestyle.
There's no shortage of advice out there for you. Wherever you look, January brings with it a bombardment of dieting tips and health fads. But too often these are focused on misinformation surrounding the term 'detox' and cutting foods out in the short term, rather than creating a longer-term balanced diet. I believe that no food should be excluded, and that we need to stop thinking of certain foods as being intrinsically 'good' or 'bad.' Rather than focusing on what you can't eat, we should be encouraging a wide-ranging, educated diet. I want to share a vision of food as something that should always be a positive aspect of life, offering enjoyment, fuel and happiness for both the mind and body.
This is why I'm thrilled to be partnering with Deliveroo to help people make balanced, informed, affordable choices. Deliveroo has undoubtedly changed the way we eat, giving people access to a huge choice of meals with just a few swipes on their smartphone. With many of us having busy schedules and continuing to work longer hours, a growing number of people find ordering meals for delivery quicker and easier than cooking food for themselves. And, with all the contradicting information out there, creating and sticking to healthy eating habits can be challenging. So at a time when people want to know more about the food they're consuming, it's fantastic that Deliveroo is leading the way in making healthy eating choices accessible and affordable.
The word 'healthy' has been thrown around for so long that its true meaning has been somewhat lost, which is confusing for people wanting to improve their diet. Ultimately, healthy means getting everything your body needs from your diet to perform optimally. And the menu I've curated exclusively for Deliveroo is centered around this principle.
I am of the firm belief that getting back to basics and keeping nutrition simple is the easiest way to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the long term. The meals in my specially-designed menu - which cover breakfast, lunch and dinner - are nutritionally selected following specific criteria: being low in fat, salt and sugar and high in fibre - factors which are vital for a varied and balanced diet. These dishes will have that feel good element in that you know you're eating something that will be nourishing for your mind and body, whilst not compromising on taste so you will enjoy your special meal.
With more and more people using food delivery services, Deliveroo is in a unique position to promote healthy choices and give customers access to wholesome, nutritious food. Coupled with my experience as a nutritionist and drive to help people eat local, fresh and healthy food, I believe we can help people change their food habits for the better whilst maintaining the convenience of ordering food at the touch of a button. Deliveroo and I want to tackle the perception that takeaways always have to be unhealthy, and prove that food delivered straight to your door can provide the same balanced diet at affordable prices as meals cooked at home.
The words 'healthy' and 'takeaway' aren't often heard together – it's time to redefine takeaways.
