Ah, the great modern debate. Does pineapple go on pizza? If you ask us, it goes in everything! Thai food has been using it for centuries, and to absolutely amazing avail. One of the things that make it so fantastic is that it's just so versatile. No matter what you're into - whether it be fish, veggies or meat - if you love pineapple, there is bound to be a dish for you. We've put together a list of some of the best things that it goes with to show you exactly what it can do.
1. With duck
Ever had Kang Ped Yang? We have at Thai City in London, and we'd recommend it any day. Fans of duck can enjoy it in duck curry (yep, that's what it is) alongside pineapple, cherry tomatoes and red pepper. The duck is roasted and then sliced, and put into a coconut milk base. You're honestly not going to want to pass this one up.
2. With prawns
Seafood curries in Thai food are nothing new, but Rusty Bike in Mile End certainly know how to put a new spin on old favourites. Their Stir-fried Cashew Nut Batter Prawn is about as exciting as it gets, with so many interesting flavour combinations that we don't even know where to begin. Cashew nuts, onions and peppers, as well as that all-important pineapple, find their way into a dry yet sweet oyster sauce. Prawns are then added and it works just great.
3. With sea bass
What's not to love about sea bass? It's super meaty, tasty and even good for your health. But we bet you've never tried it like this! The Brewery Tap in Peterborough offer Tangy Sea Bass, a shallow fried fillet that's crunchy outside and tender within, packed with so many interesting tastes. There's spicy tamarind, peppers, chillies and onions, and of course pineapple, to balance it all out. Don't worry, they say it's only a "medium" level of spice, so it can meet both the frightened and the fans of heat right in the middle.
4. With fried rice
Ever tasted the rainbow? Nah, we're not talking about Skittles here - we've got Rainbow Rice from Peterborough's very own East instead. Turns out pineapple with rice is actually a winning combination, but that's not all this dish has got. It plays host to a whole array of things, from chicken to prawns, peppers and onions. Bright and brilliant!
5. With sweet & sour stir-fry
Saying Leelawadee might be a mouthful, but not as big as the mouthful you're going to want of this! The establishment offers the incredible Sweet and Sour Stir Fry, keeping the patrons of Southampton incredibly happy. So what's in it? Choose from king prawns or chicken to go alongside cucumber, tomatoes, onions and peppers. We think the star of the show is pineapple though... after all, that's why you're reading this piece!
