When you've had a brilliant weekend of laughs and spent time with mates, it's no wonder that many of us aren't mega fans of Mondays. But here's an idea to start your week – when you order selected mains from participating restaurants on Mexican Monday we'll throw in a side for free. We've put together a list of our favourites – dishes we're totally fired up about!
For a taste of sunny California, this Tex-Mex place creates some of the most delicious tacos and burritos this side of the Atlantic. Owners Brandon and Jen grew up in San Francisco and their menu is inspired by city's famous taquerias. Hunker down with flavoursome meat ones, like grilled chicken and slow-cooked pork, or get torn into the Naked Burrito, which swaps a traditional rice filling for lettuce to make a light salad.
Queso Dillo (London)
Here's a tasty idea for quesadilla fans. Queso Dillo (pronounced kay-soh dill-oh) is brand new to Deliveroo Editions and brings a fun twist to the Mexican classic with exciting flavour combinations. Fancy a Cheese-a-Dillo – a decadent cheese-fest layered with cheddar, mozzarella and gringo dillo? Or how about the Meat Fest Dillo? Three 10-inch cheesy quesadillas collide with slow-smoked brisket, pulled pork, chicken, tomato and a hint of jalapeno. It's the ultimate triple challenge.
Bring the party to your plate with Tex-Mex dishes, from juicy grilled Texan ribs to pulled-pork Yucatan burritos. Then take your pick from eight tempting sides, including Zingy Fiesta Coleslaw and sweet Butternut Squash Mash – we'll be tucking into Cowboy Beans, a smokey barbecue version of the classic variety.
Molé Taco Bar (London)
Holy molé, this modern Mexican and South-American restaurant creates some of the most inventive tacos around. Who's for a Tempura Tiger Prawn one? They definitely put a fresh spin on traditional Mexican food, with tiger prawns fried in a light batter, corn tortillas, zingy pica de gallo and tasty Serrano ham mayonnaise.
Hailed as the best burrito in Cheltenham, this stylish cantina prides itself on Mexican-inspired flavours made with the freshest ingredients. If you're super-hungry, then don't miss the Papa Burrito. Heartily packed with tender meat, rice, beans and flavourful salsa, we reckon it's a winner for dinner or lunch on the go.
Benito's Hat (London)
This Tex-Mex eatery makes some of the best burritos in town, so we're pretty excited they've created a new one for Mexican Monday. The mighty sounding 'The Juan', named after an historic Spanish military officer, features delicious Halal chicken, pico de gallo salsa, cooling sour cream and melted gooey cheese.
Plan Burrito (Loughborough)
Fancy taking your tastebuds on a trip to the heart of Mexico? Then get your plates at the ready for this eatery's flavour-packed Southwest burritos and tacos. Inspired by the sizzling flavours of traditional taquerias, they're crammed with all the classics, like tender pork, salsa, jalapenos and delicious guacamole.
Maria Sabina – Pop Brixton (London)
Having started life as a market stall outside Brixton Station, you can't get more authentic street food than this eatery. Try their classic Nopal Cactus tacos made from a recipe passed down through generations – corn tortillas loaded with strips of grilled cactus, topped with caramelised pineapple, onion, coriander and punchy salsa.
Burrito Loco (Guildford)
Owner Miguel's passion for Mexican flavours was fired up after moving there in search for culinary inspiration, so lucky Guildford locals get to experience the real deal. His burritos will delight everyone with a wide choice of fantastic fillings, including local sourced chicken, pork, beef brisket or vegetarian and vegan options.
Independent eatery FreshMex began as a festival pop-up, but now have two permanent sites. Known for their customisable burritos, fajitas and quesadillas, their latest creation is the Cali Buritto. It's not for the fainthearted, though! Switch rice and refried beans inside your burrito for spiced or salted potato fries, then cram in as many homemade fillings and toppings as you like.
