King Of The Chicken Wings: 5 Of The Best

King of a wing: 5 of the best chicken wings in town

It's kinda weird that chicken wings are such a thing. They're fiddly and the meat-to-bone ratio is not saying good things, and yet, they are indisputably amazing.

This Friday, Clapham's Jam Tree is holding 'King of a Wing' - where chicken obsessives eat as many volcanically spicy buffalo wings as they can in eight minutes. In honour of their pain and their glory, let's take a look at some of the best wings in the business, and what makes them special.

1. MEATliquor - London, Brighton, Leeds

MEATliquor might be most famous for signature Dead Hippie burger, but their Buffalo wings deserve an honourable mention. Smothered in homemade buffalo hot sauce, be warned – they're not for the faint-hearted. A side helping of blue cheese dip helps take some of the sting away.

When it comes to eating wings, the MEATliquor co-founders have got a tip or two for you. Here's how to eat them without making a total mess (or letting any tasty meat go to waste).

2.Orange Buffalo - Brighton and London

Orange Buffalo's exemplary version of the original American buffalo wing is SUBLIME, keeping it simple with succulent, double-deep-fried wings, coated in their own-recipe hot sauce. Choose between sharp-yet-sweet or eye-wateringly hot, then dunk yourself happy and get your wings down low in the blue cheese dip.

3. Red Dog Saloon, London

One for the more extreme personalities, Red Dog Saloon's 'Hot Wing Challenge' makes eating amazing quality wings an adrenaline sport. Smothered in Naga Viper hot sauce, the aim is to eat six wings in 10 minutes, with absolutely no cooling relief. If you're not up for this (understandably), guzzle on their top-notch 'normal' wings.

4. Patty & Bun, London

If you're after melt-in-your-mouth, tangy decadence in your wings, we've got the perfect treat for you. Patty & Bun's confit chicken wings are so insanely tender, the meat falls off the bone quicker than Miley Cyrus' VMA outfits.

5. Jubo, London

If you're not averse to going a little off-piste with your wings, get all over Jubo's Korean fried chicken. Getting all tangy and juicy at the same time with soy and garlic, hot and extra hot options, the spicing gives your chicky chick a little 'je ne sais quoi'.
