Head to Liverpool for Indian Food Galore

Fancy adding a little spice to your life? Ready to take your taste buds on a journey of adventure to the subcontinent of India? Then get ready for our whistlestop tour of the toppermost tikkas and most brilliant biryanis that Liverpool has to offer you.

It's going to be fun, it's going to be spicy and, above all, it could introduce you to some fantastic flavours you've simply never experienced before.

So forget the madras and five pints on a Friday night, here comes some Indian cuisine that truly deserves be savoured.

1. Remora

Their love of food shines through in every dish from this city centre restaurant a stone's throw from John Moore's University. They specialise in Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine so plenty of variety is always on the menu and every single dish is always cooked to perfection.

If you're just going to try one dish . . .

. . . then we'd recommend the Butter Chicken Masala. First, they marinate the chicken breast for several hours in a special blend of yoghurt and spices and then they barbeque it in the traditional tandoor oven. The next step is to unite it with a creamy sauce with, you've guessed it, plenty of butter.

2. Mayur

Mayur on Duke Street promises to bring you Liverpool's finest Indian cuisine with dishes from every region. The focus is on cooking in the tandoor oven and among the exotic dishes that you'll find on the menu is the super-indulgent Lobster Pepper Fry. It's over £25 so it's probably only one for special occasions but there's plenty more on the menu to suit every palate – and pocket

If you're just going to try one dish . . .

. . . it has to be the Hyderabadi Murgh Biriyani. It's a perfect combination of fragrant basmati rice with tender, boneless chicken which has been cooked in a beautifully spiced masala sauce. An extra kick is provided by a blend of black cumin, fresh mint and cardamom and it comes with the choice of cooling cucumber raita or a spicy, rich sauce.

The lucky folks of Aigburth are doubly fortunate to have this gem on their doorstep. It brings you a mouth-watering mix of the traditional and the contemporary with plenty of options whether you like it hot or prefer something a little milder instead.

If you're just going to try one dish . . .

. . . it just has to be the Mixed Tikka Chilli Moudou which features succulent pieces of chicken and lamb with herbs, chilli and a delicate honey sauce. Together it creates an unusual mix of the hot and the sweet with an extra richness brought out by the honey and accentuated by the herbs.

Of course, these are just three of the many outstanding Indian restaurants in the city centre and beyond and you may have your favourite already – most of us do. But don't let that stop you from striking out and sampling one of these instead. You're sure to be glad that you did.
