Eat Away Those January Blues With These Meaty Winter Warmers

If you're struggling to motivate yourself after all the excitement of the festive season, the only way to perk yourself up is through your stomach! Fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants out there that are masters of the winter warmer craft.

If you're a passionate meat-eater, the slow-cooked, melt-in-the-mouth dishes we've selected today are guaranteed to relight your fire.

1. Haggis - The Rosehip, Edinburgh

Located in the heart of Edinburgh city centre, The Rosehip serves up a delicious array of internationally inspired winter warmers, many of which feature American-style grills to take away. However, they also specialise in their nation's own authentic dish for this time of the year. As the people of Scotland gear up to celebrate Burns Night this month, why not join them and sample a wee taste of Scotland with their Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, served with a hearty oatcake and a moreish whisky and wholegrain mustard sauce.

2. Sussex Shorthorn - Lucky Beach, Brighton

If you're making a conscious effort to eat more sustainable, locally sourced produce in 2018, look no further than Brighton's Lucky Beach restaurant. These guys achieved the highest possible rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, with their organic burgers very much centre stage here. The Sussex Shorthorn is a truly majestic burger, with the 1/3lb organic beef patty the star of the show. Its other components are quite fascinating too, with fig pickle, pig candy, ketchup leather and toasted hazelnuts providing a sweet and nutty balance.

3. Beef Short Rib - Vita Mojo, London

Famed for its health-focussed menus, Vita Mojo should be a go-to restaurant for anyone seeking sustenance to fight back those January blues and the coughs and colds of winter. They offer an impressive range of hearty seasonal mains, with their slow-cooked Beef Short Rib and creamy sweet potato mash proving a real hit with those seeking some wholesome British-style homemade cooking. There's steamed broccoli and spiced red cabbage to explore too, making this the perfect Sunday afternoon pig-out.

4. Baby Back Ribs - Maxwell's Bar and Grill, London

It's difficult to rival the Americans' flair for slow-cooked meats. Maxwell's Bar and Grill boasts a menu teeming with all-American favourites, from juicy Prime Beef to Sticky Wings that really pack a punch. But for those cold winter afternoons, we wholeheartedly recommend their Baby Back Ribs, slow-cooked for hours and then smothered in sticky barbecue sauce, served with crispy French fries. They also offer a combo deal where you can enjoy half a rack of Baby Back Ribs and a portion of juicy Pulled Pork and slaw!

5. Boss Hog Platter - Bodean's, London

The original barbecue smokehouse in the capital, Bodean's soul food is the perfect antidote to your post-Christmas comedown. They're all about hearty, succulent meats here and for the best possible Bodean's experience, we implore you to eat with at least one other pal. This way you can place an order for one of their Boss Hog Sharing Platters which features a complete selection of their finest meats from BBQ burnt ends and pulled pork to chicken thighs and links of smoked sausage – it's a meat-eater's paradise and you certainly won't have any room left for cheesecake!
