Craving for a Curry in Leeds? Check Out the Best Independent Indian Restaurants in the City Centre

The buzzing northern city of Leeds is famous for its wide array of exceptional eateries offering every type of cuisine under the sun. And with about 8% of the city's residents being of Asian origin, there are, of course, plenty of fantastic Indian offerings to be found in and around the area.

Aside from the bustling chain restaurants that are often jam-packed, there are a few quaint independent venues that fans of India's vibrant culinary offerings should definitely sample. Or for those who prefer to dine at home while enjoying a classic Bollywood flick, you could always order some of these tantalising dishes from Deliveroo.

Bengal Brasserie

There are three Bengal Brasseries around Leeds, which highlights just how popular this exciting Indian restaurant is. The central venue is on Merrion Way, and is facing out of the Merrion shopping centre. The restaurant's mission is to provide simple, authentic Indian food, using only the finest, locally sourced ingredients available. It has been lauded for its fantastic atmosphere and service, but it's the popular dishes that keep diners coming back for more. The house signature is Lamb Sylheti, which is a medium-to-hot Bangladeshi dish made with fresh green chillies, cloves, cumin seeds, and black pepper. There is also a wide range of curries, from mild, aromatic kormas, to fiery, ferocious vindaloos. A meal from here should be on every curry fan's list.

The Cat's Pyjamas

This quirky little restaurant in the booming student zone of Headingley doesn't just have an awesome name, it also has some totally epic dishes on the menu. One of these is the famous Tandoori Mixed Grill, which consists of mouth-watering malai tikka, sweet seekh kebabs, and fresh prawns all served with a fragrant mint chutney for dipping purposes. It's ideal for sharing with other like-minded curry lovers in the area, or alternatively you could have a shameless solo binge. Either way, you'll be coming back for more once you've sampled this delightful dish and all the other superb meals this place has to offer.

The idea behind Bundobust is nothing short of genius. It combines two of our favourite things - craft beers and Indian street food. Based just off the Calls, this little restaurant keeps things simple with its brick and wooden benches and tables. It's a cool little place to hang out with friends, but where it really excels is in the food and drink on offer. Some Indian food fans occasionally complain about the lack of vegetarian options available, but they won't find any cause for discontent at Bundobust. The restaurant is, in fact, famous for some of its veggie dishes. One of the must-try items on the menu for veggies and meat-eaters alike is the Paneer and Mushroom Tikka, which has become one of the most popular dishes on offer.

So, if you're thinking about getting an Indian in Leeds, before you go to one of the massive corporate chains, why not check out on our site these incredible independent Indian restaurants first?
