Got the hankering for some fresh fish, saucy squid or crunchy crab? London's seafood scene doesn't disappoint. There's a whole host of restaurants primed and ready to deliver the fruits of the sea to your front door. Here are five of our favourites:
Good Friday requires good lunch, and what could be better than a dozen of fresh oysters and a glass of champagne? 🥂🥂 #oysters #oysterplatter #champagne #lunch #lunchbreak #oysterlove #oysterlover #oyster #seafood #naturalfood #shellfish #rawfood #localfood #freshfood #gourmet #goodlife #travellife #travelgram #foodie #oysterporn #foodporn #instafood #london #coventgarden #lochfyne #londonfood
Established in 1978, Loch Fyne offers a delicious range of sustainably-sourced seafood that's pretty much perfect for any occasion. Having conquered the Scottish coast, they've since opened up numerous restaurants up and down the country – lucky us. There's a massive variety of dishes (as well as some meatier options), but if you can't pick one, the seafood grill offers a little bit of everything. It's a one-dish wonder featuring Scottish salmon, gilt-head bream, squid, lobster butter, king scallop and king prawn. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
2. Caviar House & Prunier
Sophisticated and decadent, Caviar House & Prunier is the gold standard for seafood in London. You'll be immediately drawn to the caviar – it's made by their own manufacturer and has all the salty, creamy flavour that you'd expect from such a wickedly tasty food. But caviar isn't the only thing that this restaurant does well, not by a long shot! From smoked salmon (made in their own smoker) to crab salad, pretty much any seafood dish you can think of is available. The tsarina, a blini served with Balik smoked salmon and caviar and topped off with crème fraiche is a revelation, while the lobster salad hits the spot like nothing else.
KIRI is named after the tools used by Japanese master carpenters, and it's that emphasis on skill and craftsmanship that really characterises their take on modern sushi. From yellowfin to beef tataki, KIRI is all about homely food that packs a huge flavour. Catering for a big party? Not a problem. There are four sushi platter options featuring 16 to 30 different sushi pieces to choose from, perfect for keeping the whole family fed.
4. Crab Tavern
Crustacean crazy, Crab Tavern might be the very best crab joint in the capital. For something light, the crab tacos served with brown mayo and guacamole is an inspired choice, while the lobster burger complete with rarebit and old bay fries is an indulgent affair that's perfect for sinking your teeth into.
5. Honi Poke
Finally, we just want to thank Honi Poke for bringing some authentic poke down to London town. What's poke (poh-kay), you ask? It's a Hawaiian dish featuring raw marinated fish, vegetables and garnishes. It's taken the US by storm and is poised to be the next big thing in London's foodie scene. At Honi Poke, you can build your bowl from the bottom up, and with such a wide range of flavour combinations available, you'll be sure to find something that sets your taste buds alight. Sushi rice or veggie slaw, salmon or octopus, red chilli or chive, it's all up to you.
