Who doesn't like chocolate? Well, the majority of us do and there's always a good reason to have a little taste of it – or a big one. It's great for when you're in a good mood, but it can cheer you up if you're feeling down too. Having a chocolate bar, though, doesn't always hit the spot when you're looking for a real chocolate fix. Instead, why not order one of the many chocolate treats that Edinburgh's restaurants and cafés are cooking up in their kitchens?
1. Paddy's Chocolate Orange
Terry's Chocolate Orange is a well-loved treat that we all know, but what about Paddy's version? For anyone who likes that chocolate orange flavour, this bottled cocktail from Beer Kitchen allows you to take it to a different level – an alcoholic one! It's a blend of Irish whisky, Triple Sec and Chocolate bitters. All you need to do is get a glass and some ice, and maybe a slice of orange to go on the top.
2. Strawberry Bowl
If you're a chocoholic, then you can't go wrong with the menu at Coro the Chocolate café – almost every item has some chocolatey connection. But our fave dish has to be the Strawberry Bowl, where the fresh strawberries come with a cup of dipping chocolate. If you like a little more variety, then try the Fresh Fruit Fondue for two, which has bananas, strawberries and raspberries, as well as marshmallows to dip in a fondue of melted choc!
3. Calzone with Nutella & Mascarpone
Italy is the home of pizza and of Nutella, so it's not surprising that many Italian restaurants have the bright idea of combining the two on their menus! At Civerinos, they have a calzone that's filled with a mix of Nutella and mascarpone cheese – and it come with a dipping pot of Nutella too.
4. Chocolate Fudge Cake
It's a classic chocolate cake, so we had to include it on our list! And the Chocolate Fudge Cake from Quattro Zero is served warm, with vanilla ice cream providing the perfect complement to the rich intensity of the chocolate cake.
5. Ferrero Rocher milkshake
And to end our list of chocolate treats where we began, let's have another chocolate drink. But unlike Paddy's Chocolate Orange, this one the whole family can enjoy. Why have a normal chocolate milkshake, when you can have one made at Zuhus with Ferrero Rocher chocolates blended in as well? And as you drink it, you can say in the spirit of the old TV ad, "With this milkshake, Monsieur, you're really spoiling us!"
